Controversies (If Any)On one occasion, Bajrang Punia expressed criticism of the Indian government and its approach to awarding the Khel Ratna Award. During a media interview, he stated his intention to challenge the government’s decision to bestow this honor legally.

This statement reportedly came about following the recognition of Virat Kohli with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award (aka Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award) despite his achievement score being zero. At the same time, he had achieved a significantly higher score of 80.

On January 18, 2023, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Singh denied the allegations, and in April 2023, they remained unproven.

On April 23, 2023, the wrestlers protested again, seeking a sexual harassment case against Singh, citing unfulfilled promises. On April 25, 2023, seven wrestlers filed a Supreme Court case, resulting in two FIRs against Singh and his aide Vinod Tomar on April 28, 2023.

Singh was accused of political conspiracy, and politicians, including Arvind Kejriwal and Priyanka Gandhi, supported the protests. On June 25, 2023, the wrestlers concluded their rally and opted for legal action.
